David Fizdale, a former NBA head coach, has been named the new head coach of the Nigerian men’s national basketball team, according to ESPN Andscape.

Currently working as an NBA TV analyst, Fizdale will aim to lead Nigeria to qualification for the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles, his hometown.
“It will be fun and exciting calling timeouts and drawing plays up again as a head coach,” Fizdale said. “It will be good to get back in that mindset of preparation and motivation.”
He also acknowledged that helping Nigeria secure an Olympic berth in Los Angeles would hold deep personal significance for him and his family.
Fizdale previously coached the Memphis Grizzlies and New York Knicks, and most recently served as an assistant coach with the Phoenix Suns.
