In his seven seasons at Scotstoun, the hooker has become a fan favorite, known for his remarkable try-scoring ability and even more for his charismatic personality.
He marked what could be his final home appearance for the Warriors before his summer move to France by scoring two tries.
With Gregor Hiddleston and Seb Stephen likely to be chosen for the playoffs, if this was Matthews’ last game for the club, he certainly went out in style.
**Dempsey dominates once again**
Jack Dempsey is another player heading for the exit this summer, and the number eight demonstrated exactly what Glasgow will lose with yet another powerful performance.
Dempsey opened the scoring for Glasgow with the first try, charging down the wing for the initial break and then positioning himself to crash over after the ball was recycled.
He was a constant threat to Cardiff in wide areas throughout the match and rarely went to ground without at least two defenders attempting to stop him.
Glasgow have made moves to cover his departure from the back row, most notably the impending arrival of Jamie Ritchie, but Dempsey’s forceful ball-carrying will be sorely missed.
**Horne sets the tempo**
Several factors contributed to Glasgow’s struggles in defeats to Toulon, the Lions, and the Stormers, but the absence of George Horne was near the top of the list.
Upon returning from injury, Horne brought the energy and pace that had been lacking from the Warriors’ play in recent weeks.
He was quick to every breakdown, either releasing the ball rapidly or making a snipe himself, always keeping the Cardiff defense guessing.
Horne converted four of his five goal attempts (the final one drifted wide with the game already decided), and his overall influence helped his side rediscover their form at a crucial moment.
