Lionel Messi has achieved a historic milestone in Major League Soccer during his third season with Inter Miami, becoming the fastest player in league history to reach 100 regular-season goal contributions.

The record was set in Inter Miami’s 4-2 victory over Toronto FC, where Messi recorded one goal and two assists. The win helped the team bounce back from a 4-3 home loss to Orlando City the previous weekend, extending their road winning streak to six games. This result sets up another away match against Cincinnati FC on May 13.

With the win, Messi now has 59 goals and 41 assists in 64 regular-season appearances, breaking the previous mark of 95 matches set by Toronto FC’s Sebastian Giovinco. Across all competitions, the 38-year-old forward has accumulated 87 goals and 57 assists in 101 career games for Inter Miami.

The milestone comes just one month before the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where Argentina aims to defend its 2022 championship. Messi is expected to play a pivotal role for the defending champions, provided he formally commits to the tournament. In his 26 World Cup appearances, Messi has netted 13 goals, provided eight assists, won the 2022 title, and earned the Golden Ball award. Argentina will begin its World Cup campaign with matches against Algeria on June 16 and June 27, and Austria on June 22.
